In her later years, Jennifer married Aylmer Hughes Chamberlain and they resided in Dorset, England. And despite many reports throughout the years, an actor named David Holt (1927 - 2003) was NOT the brother of Jennifer and Tim Holt nor the son of Jack Holt. Bakewell may be best remembered as "Major Tobias Norton" in the 1950s Disney Fess Parker / Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier TV show.Įven though her father Jack and brother Tim made scores of westerns and outdoorsy type films, Jennifer was never in any of their movies. One of her early marriages was circa 1946 - 1948 to actor William Bakewell (1908 - 1993) whom she co-starred with in the 1946 HOP HARRIGAN chapterplay. She lived in Mexico, various locations in the United States, and resided in England at the time or her death in 1997 from cancer. Jennifer married seven or eight times and there were no children. While in Chicago, Jennifer headed the drama department of the Patricia Stevens modeling / career agency. That 15 minute series ran from 1950 - 1951. After a year or two, Jennifer exited Mistletoe and did another children's program, PANHANDLE PETE AND JENNIFER, which originated from NBC in Chicago. Chicago department store Marshall Fields did this program in response to competitor Montgomery Ward's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. One was her portrayal of "Aunt Judy" to the puppet "Uncle Mistletoe" in the 15 minute THE ADVENTURES OF UNCLE MISTLETOE which was broadcast locally over ABC. She and most of her gang are gunned down by singin' cowboy Eddie Dean in the film-ending shootout.Ĭirca 1948, Jennifer settled in Chicago and hosted / participated in several television programs that originated in the Windy City. Her favorite B western role was portraying the masked leader of a band of outlaws in THE HAWK OF POWDER RIVER (Eagle-Lion/PRC, 1948). Les Adams has her identified in about 50 films which includes 37 westerns and 2 serials. Then she signed a term contract with Universal and the Januissue of Variety noted that "Universal tagged Jennifer Holt, daughter of Jack Holt, to a termer." She'd be with Universal a couple years, mostly playing the heroine in sagebrush adventures with Johnny Mack Brown, Tex Ritter, and Rod Cameron. Her first oater was the Hopalong Cassidy STICK TO YOUR GUNS (Paramount, 1941). Jennifer's movie career spanned about eight years, from 1941 - 1948, and most of her roles were B westerns. Perhaps there was a formal or informal name change from Randolph to Marshall. While some biographies have her full name as Elizabeth Marshall Holt, she is "Elizabeth Randolph Holt" on her birth certificate. Born in 1920 in Los Angeles, Jennifer Holt was the daughter of movie star Jack Holt and sister of RKO cowboy hero Tim Holt.
